Please contact us if you'd like more information on adopting one of our animals. We frequently get new rescue animals and we don’t always update our website, so please check back with us! We currently do not keep wait lists or priority lists for our incoming rescues.
Attention: For the health and safety of our animals, Exotic Edventures will only adopt our rescues to approved adopters who live in western/central Pennsylvania. We will not ship or place our rescue animals out of state. We are a rescue, not a reptile breeder or seller. Adopters need to be within an 1-1.5 hour drive from our facility so that we are able to easily and quickly collect an animal if circumstances arise that cause an adoption to not work out. There are no exceptions to this policy. Please do not contact us to ask us to ship a rescue animal or to ask us to adopt out an animal to an out of state home.
We will not adopt out animals to solely be children’s pets. A large portion of our surrenders come to us because they were purchased for children, who quickly lost interest in the animal. Adopting and caring for exotic animals should be a family affair and all members of the household should be a part of the adoption. Adults should be committed to care for the animal for its entire lifespan.
We will not adopt out solitary species to be cage-mates or “friends” for other animals. Solitary species should never cohabitate in the same enclosure or be placed together for the health and safety of the animals.
Adopters looking for a species that can be bonded together will still be required to have a separate appropriate enclosure/cage for their new animal to afford the animal time to settle in to their new home and to give your new animal the time for a slow, low stress introduction process with your established pets. This is also a requirement as not all animals successfully bond. Adopters should be prepared and okay with the possibility of their new animal and their established animal not bonding and that the animals may need to be housed and maintained separately long term.
Potential adopters must provide proof of a species appropriate enclosure/cage for the animal they are adopting.
Potential adopters must show proof that they have an exotics veterinarian in their area that is able and willing to see the species that they are adopting. This is to ensure that all adopters have access to veterinary care in the event of an emergency or basic preventative care.
We will not adopt out animals to adopters in cities/counties/municipalities that have laws restricting the ownership of the species being adopted. Adopters are solely responsible to secure any permits or licenses needed to own the species they are adopting before applying to adopt. Failure to do so may result in the termination of an adoption.
Please Note: Depending on the time of the year, the space at our facility, and the species of animal you have, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to take in your pet. Please contact us directly to further discuss the surrender process and your options in more detail.
**At this time, we are not able to take in iguanas and turtles due to space limitations and due to the sheer volume of requests that we receive about these specific species. You are encouraged to still contact us if you are trying to rehome one of these species. We would be happy to help network and to find a new home for your animal. We would just request that the owner "foster" the animal at their home until we can place the animal in a suitable new one. **

Adopted Animals
Name: Rudy ***Adopted*** Species: Bearded Dragon Age: Unknown/Sub-Adult Sex: Male Color/Morph: Morph/Lineage is unknown; Possible citrus morph Temperament: Social, yet feisty Care Level: Medium Location: State College, PA
Rudy came to use about a year ago from an owner who could no longer care for him. He was still growing at the time, so we believe that Rudy is fairly young and less than a few years old. He likely still has some growing to do.
Rudy is social and can be handled, but he can also have an attitude. Especially when he does not feel like being handled or picked up. Due to this, we do not recommend Rudy to go to a new reptile owner or to be a pet for children. We would like to see this guy find a home with a family who has bearded dragon experience and who are able to deal with an occationally crancky dragon.
Requirements: Prospective adopters are required to fill out an adoption form and to provide proof that they have a proper set-up for Rudy before adopting. We require adoptions to be done at your home, so that we can bring the animal to you and to ensure that you have the right enclosure for your new pet. We are also very happy to give you pointers on ways to improve your home for your new pet. A small adoption fee is required. We only adopt out animals within an hour from our facility at this time.
Name: Bonnie ***Adopted*** Species: Blue Tongue Skink (Merauke) Age: Adult Sex: Likely Female Temperament: Is working on becoming hand tame Care Level: Medium Location: State College, PA
Bonnie was surrendered to Exotic Edventures from an owner who did not know how to properly care for a BTS. We do not believe that she was handled much, so she has not yet learned to fully trust people yet. She would definitely be a project for someone and we would require adopters to be well versed in skink husbandry and to feel comfortable working with a skink that needs some socilaization. She came to us as an adult and based on the owner's intake information, she is about 2-3 years old. BTS are not able to be sexed without extensive testing with a skink savvy veterinarian, so we do not know definitively whether Bonnie is a male or female. Based on certain traits and physical appearance, we would guess that she is likely female, but we do not know this for certain.
Bonnie was kept on newspaper, instead of substrate to promote the humidity that she needed to properly shed. Due to this, she came to us missing most of her toes.
Requirements: Prospective adopters are required to fill out an adoption form and to provide proof that they have a proper set-up for Bonnie before adopting. We require adoptions to be done at your home, so that we can bring the animal to you and to ensure that you have the right enclosure for your new pet. We are also very happy to give you pointers on ways to improve your home for your new pet before and during the adoption process. A small adoption fee is required. We only adopt out animals within an hour from our facility at this time.
Name: Renegade ***Adopted*** Species: Ball Python Age: 1 Year Old (Hatched 2017); 449gms/Around 2.5' in Length Sex: Male Morph: Pastel Champagne Probable Leopard (Possibly double het for Ghost/Pied) Temperament: Flighty; easy to handle Care Level: Medium Location: State College, PA
Requirements: Prospective adopters are required to fill out an adoption form and to provide proof that they have a proper set-up for Renegade before adopting. We require adoptions to be done at your home, so that we can bring the animal to you and to ensure that you have the right enclosure for your new pet. We are also very happy to give you pointers on ways to improve your home for your new pet before and during the adoption process. An adoption fee is required. We only adopt out animals within an hour from our facility at this time.
Name: Hoppy Species: Argentine horned frog or "Pac-Man" frog Age: Unknown/juvenile Sex: Likely Male Color/Morph: Albino Temperament: Typical Pac-Man attitude; will eat anything in his path Care Level: Medium Location: State College, PA Hoppy came to us from an owner who could no longer care for him. He is still growing and is what we would consider a juvenile frog, so he is likely less than a year old, though we do not know he exact age or lineage. He has a great appetite and is great fun to watch. These guys are solitary animals and should be housed alone.
Adopters considering adding a frog to their family should consider that most amphibians do not enjoy being handled often and that their skin is extremely fragile. Frog skin is capable of absorbing anything that comes into contact with it, such as perfumes, soaps, hand lotions, chemicals, etc. Due to these factors, we do not recommend frogs as pets to people who are looking for an interact pet. We recommend not handling your amphibian pets and to wear gloves when you do have to do so, to help protect your pet.
Requirements: Prospective adopters are required to fill out an adoption form and to provide proof that they have a proper set-up for Hoppy before adopting.
Name: Rambo Species: Carpet Python Age: Juvenile (Around 2' in Length) Sex: Male Color/Morph: Normal Temperament: Typical flighty, young carpet python; is able to be handled once out of his enclosure Care Level: Medium Location: State College, PA
Rambo's owner purchased him on a whim when at attending a local reptile expo. Soon after, his owner realized that snake ownership was not for them and they ended up contacting us to take him in. Rambo is a typical juvenile carpet python. He can be nippy, but once out of his enclosure, he is easily handled. He will also likely grow out of this as he becomes larger and with consistent handling.
Requirements: Prospective adopters are required to fill out an adoption form and to provide proof that they have a proper set-up for Rambo before adopting.
Name: Rose***ADOPTED*** Species: Long Tailed Chinchilla Age: 4 Years Old Sex: Female Color: Gray Temperament: Very social; likes chin scratches, does not like to be held Care Level: Medium Location: State College, PA
Rose came to us from a college student who could no longer take care of her. She is very sweet natured and enjoys being petted and loved on. Like most chinchillas, Rose does not enjoy being held or cuddled and would much prefer to run around and explore.
Name: Peanut and Jelly Bean***ADOPTED*** Species: American Budgies Age: 102 Years Old Sex: Male Color: Blue/Yellow and Green/Yellow Temperament: Very social; Love to sing and play; will eat from your hand Care Level: Medium Location: State College, PA
Name: Leonard ***ADOPTED*** Species: Russian Tortoise Age: 5+ Years Old Sex: Male Temperament: Very social; Loves to eat from your hand and head scratches Care Level: Medium Location: State College, PA
Leonard was surrendered to us after his family could no long care for him. We are not sure how old Leonard is, as he has been through several homes before coming to our rescue. We believe that he is at least 5 years old, based on his previous owners information, so he is full grown and likely fairly young for a tortoise species.
Name: Sugar ***ADOPTED*** Species: Domestic Rat Age: 2+ Years Old Sex: Female Color/Morph: Albino Temperament: Very friendly and easy to handle Care Level: Medium Location: State College, PA
Sugar has a very interesting past. She came to us from a young owner, who developed a severe allergy to her and her bedding. The owner indicated that Sugar was a lab rat, born and used at Penn State, before being sold to an Ag-science class at a local high school. After the HS class was done using the rats for a class project, Sugar's young owner adopted her and kept her for over a year until he developed allergies.
Iggie ***ADOPTED*** Species: Green Iguana Age: Around 3 years old Location: Central Pennsylvania
This feisty fellow is about 4'-5' in length and has the typical iguana "attitude." His family can no longer care for his extensive needs and are not equipt to handle a very large, sometimes grumpy, lizard. We would require Iggie to go to a new home with extensive large reptile experience and he will need at least a 6'x4' enclosure to be properly housed.
Name: Elsa ***ADOPTED*** Species: Serian Hamster Age: Baby/Young Adult Sex:Female Color/Morph: Teddy Bear Temperament: Super sweet; social Care Level: Medium Location: State College, PA
A good samaritan found Elsa in a snow bank during a spring snow storm and saved her from freezing to death. We believe that Elsa either escaped her owner's home or her owner released her outside. She is still very young and looks to be only a few months old. Elsa is very sweet and curoius and would make a great pet for a family looking for an interactive pet.
Happy ***ADOPTED*** Species: Red-Eared Slider Turtle Age: Sub Adult
Happy is still growing and will need a home that is prepared to properly care for the needs of an aquatic pet. He is very curious and loves to bask on his turtle island in his tank. Please keep in mind that this species can live over 30 years and can reach over a foot in length at adulthood.
We would require adopters to provide proof of appropriate enclosure set up and that they have an exotic animal vet in their area that would be able to see Happy.
Care Level: Intermediate
Pearl & Oval ***ADOPTED*** Age: Adults
We have a number of leopard geckos currently up for adoption. Please contact us for more information.
