Exotic animals don't always make good pets. Providing proper husbandry for these animals takes a big commitment of time, money, space, and education. Unfortunately exotic animals often find themselves without homes after their owners realize that they can not offer proper care for the animal. The many owners sadly lack the resources and the knowledge to properly own exotic animals.
When we moved to the central Pennsylvania area we quickly became aware that there were not many resources for non traditional pets. Most of the local shelters and rescues only offer assistance in rehoming dogs, cats, and occationally a pocket pet. Reptiles, exotic animals, and birds require special care and husbandry needs that most standard shelters in the area just can't offer. This leaves few options for owners when they find themselves unable to care of their animal and unable to find a rescue to take in their pet.
Do you have an exotic animal that needs to be rehomed? Contact us for assistance.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about exotic animal ownership.
Please Note:
Depending on the time of the year, the space at our facility, and the species of animal you have, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to take in your pet. Please contact us directly to further discuss the surrender process and your options in more detail.
**At this time, we are not able to take in iguanas and turtles due to space limitations and because of the sheer volume of requests that we receive about these specific species. You are encouraged to still contact us if you are trying to rehome one of these species. We would be happy to help network and to find a new home for your animal. We would just request that the owner "foster" the animal at their home until we can place the animal in a suitable new one. **
